Born to Bean Bangkok: The Sukhumvit Workspace Coffee Shop
I discovered this spot through my friends. They called it a walk in coffee shop that actually gets coffee right. After going here a few times, before meeting friends at W district, here’s what I think of the place…
Finding Comfort in Cozy Spaces
The first thing that hits you at Born to Bean isn’t the size. Or well, maybe it is, because it’s small. However at times what’s more important at a coffeeshop is the coffee. And you immediately notice that they care about that. They have a house blend, as well as Pang Khon beans, the only beans from Thailand that the famous Bacha Coffee sells. It’s from a district in Chiang Rai in the north of Thailand, close to the Myanmar border. Those beans got me excited.
I grabbed a corner spot with a mid-century modern chrome-framed chair. The wooden panels run half-height around the room, topped with Bauhaus-inspired posters. It’s the kind of space that makes you sit straighter. The warm amber lighting does help a bit to create focus zones. Still it’s really for the coffee and not for focus time. The place is also the entrance of a hotel, and it makes it a great spot to catch up with someone and enjoy the coffee.
The Coffee Balance
Coffee quality justifies the workspace trade-offs. Their 80 THB (€2 / $3 / £2) macchiato hits that perfect balance concentrated without bitterness. It has that medium-to-full body with notes of dark chocolate. My friend who’s a regular called it “the best macchiato in Bangkok,” and after sampling across Thonglor and Ekkamai, I understand the claim, but I can’t decide myself still. The coffee at EGEIRO Coffee is also very good. Still, for the price it’s totally worth it!
As for the location, as mentioned it’s the entrance of a hotel but it’s also below the Phra Khanong BTS. So it’s really easy to get to, and perfect if you’re on the go and need to fill your tumbler with your morning coffee.
Born to Bean operates 7 AM to 5 PM daily. This is ample for a morning coffee and so for remote workers seeking a neighborhood vibe rather than tourist spot, Born to Bean delivers precision over scale.
You will find consistent coffee, and staff that recognizes your face by week two.
